Alumni Accomplishments

Nine years with Coach Rob, 2018–2026 — here's where those players ended up.

Nine Years, One Community

Before founding Triple Threat Basketball Academy, Coach Rob was Technical Director at Carnarvon Basketball Club. He led the Carnarvon Travel Team program for seven years from 2020–2026 — working with every cohort born between 2008 and 2014.

During Coach Rob's tenure, Carnarvon teams had great success in Night League. In most years there were multiple Carnarvon teams playing in 'A' Division. Carnarvon teams won many U13 and U15 championships, most recently winning both in 2026.

Success On The Mainland

Coach Rob's travel teams compete in mainland tournaments, but their biggest challenges are the BCCBA Fall and Winter leagues. Here they face off in league play against 8–12 other mainland clubs across a full regular season and playoffs.

Champions

In 2026 the Carnarvon 2013 cohort finished 1st in the BCCBA Winter League Championships.

High School Basketball Stars

9th at BC Provincials

The Oak Bay Secondary senior girls team were ranked top-10 in the province in 2025/26. The majority of that roster (2008–2010 cohorts) played at least one season with Coach Rob during their developmental years.

Looking over the rosters for the 2025/26 Victoria high school All-Star games tells the same story: players who trained with Coach Rob are showing up across the city's top rosters, year after year.

One player to watch

Airlie Robinson has been a real pleasure to coach. In the summer of 2026, she earned selection as an alternate for Basketball BC's U17 Provincial Team while still a U16-aged player, a testament to her talent, work ethic, and coachability. Coach Rob is excited to watch her continue to grow and succeed.

More Than The Scoreboard

Success in basketball is about more than competition — players also play for social and recreational reasons. While Technical Director at Carnarvon, Coach Rob prioritized the needs of every player in the club, not just the top competitors.

During Coach Rob's tenure, Carnarvon grew from 8 teams to 18. In 2025/26, of the fifteen U15 girls teams in Night League, five were from Carnarvon.

"You don't measure success on the scoreboard. You measure it by how often you see your players smiling."

"Don't let the grownups make this too serious and turn it into a job. Basketball is supposed to be fun. Make sure you keep it that way."

Testimonials

"Over the past three years, my daughter has been under Rob's coaching, training, and player development, and for the past two years I've had the privilege of coaching alongside him. Seeing him through both lenses has given me a real appreciation for the kind of environment he creates.

What stands out most isn't just the basketball. It's the confidence. Rob has a way of making girls feel safe enough to try hard things, make mistakes, and keep going. He reminds them that practice is where you're supposed to make mistakes. So when a player looks over after a turnover or a missed shot, worried she's let everyone down, he's already encouraging her to reset and try again. That changes the way girls approach the game.

One of the phrases on this website is "fierce joy," and I honestly can't think of a better way to describe our team. We played one of the strongest teams in the city knowing the odds were against us, but every basket, every hustle play, every brave moment was celebrated like we'd won the championship. The bench never stopped cheering. The girls never stopped believing in each other. After the game, another basketball parent came up to me and said, "I wish more teams could find that much joy in competing." That's the culture Rob creates.

Basketball is the vehicle, but what he's really building is confident young women who know how to support each other, lead with courage, and keep showing up when things are hard.

This fall, 23 girls who have developed under Rob's guidance will continue their basketball journey together at Oak Bay High School. To me, that's one of the greatest reflections of his impact. He isn't just building basketball players — he's building leaders through sport."

— Lena V., coach and parent (daughter in 2012 cohort)

Rob has been a huge part of my daughter Lily's basketball journey over the past four years through both the Carnarvon Night League and Travel Team programs.

He is an exceptional coach and teacher who combines patience, kindness, and a genuine passion for developing young athletes. As a parent, I appreciate his focus on building strong fundamentals while fostering a love of the game. Rob has a unique ability to recognize each player's strengths and help them grow with confidence, both on and off the court.

What stands out most is the positive team culture he creates. Win or lose, his teams celebrate one another, support each other, and continue to grow together. The sportsmanship, resilience, and confidence he instills are just as valuable as the basketball skills he teaches.

When I asked Lily what she would want others to know about Coach Rob, her answer was simple: "Rob is my favorite coach I've ever had, and I can't wait to try out for his new program." I think that says it all.

We are incredibly grateful for Rob's dedication and would highly recommend his programs to any family looking for a positive, supportive, and inspiring basketball experience.

— The Yam Family (daughter Lily, 2013 cohort)

As a basketball parent, I have had the opportunity to see firsthand the positive impact Coach Rob has on young athletes. My daughter absolutely loved her experience in his program. Under his guidance, she not only developed her basketball skills, but also grew in confidence and gained a deeper understanding of what it means to be part of a team.

One of the things I appreciate most about Coach Rob's approach is his emphasis on the value of every player. He teaches that each athlete contributes in their own important way and that success comes from working together as a balanced team. My daughter learned lessons about friendship, teamwork, work ethic, and supporting others that extend far beyond the basketball court.

Coach Rob creates an environment where players can be competitive while still having fun and finding joy in the game. He helps young athletes understand that winning is not everything. Personal growth, effort, character, and being a great teammate matter just as much. Thanks to his program, my daughter developed a genuine love for basketball and made memories and friendships that will stay with her for years to come.

I would highly recommend Coach Rob and his program to any family looking for a positive, development-focused basketball experience.

— Natalie C., coach and parent (daughter in 2014 cohort)

"We really appreciate Rob's positive approach to coaching. Working with him over the years has built our daughter's basketball skills, but more importantly she has grown more confident and developed life skills that will stay with her for a long time. Thank you coach Rob."

— Brian F. (daughter in 2013 cohort)

Every season, we measure success the same way: how many players come back next year, smiling.
